We're all handed a script for what our masculine and feminine are allowed to be — and bury half of ourselves to fit it. If you're run by what you hid to be accepted, Essence is meeting who you are beneath the script — for men, women, couples, everyone it never fit. Not fixing you. Returning you.
The parts that didn't fit the room you grew up in — softness or fire, need or wanting, too much feeling or too much force — you learned to manage away. That's your essence. Not gone. Buried.
And the parts you couldn't show at all, you split off — until they run you from the dark. That's your shadow. Whatever a person disowns still drives them.
None of this was weakness. It was a body learning what kept it safe. Underneath every "someone like me doesn't…" is a nervous system that once needed you not to — to stay in the room, to keep the love.
Argue with the belief and nothing moves. This work happens where the pattern actually lives: in the body that formed it. That's what makes it hold — and what keeps it honest, rather than another idea about yourself.
Dominate, don't feel, never need. Please, shrink, carry everyone but yourself. Two halves of one inheritance — both handed down, both distorted, both a survival code for a world that profits from the split.
And the world outside keeps enforcing it. What a man is allowed to be, what a woman is allowed to be — the image gets shaped by systems that were never fair: patriarchal, racist, unjust, built to keep some people on top and others in line. The polarities we're born with get overwritten by the ones we're sold — and the cost lands hardest on the people those systems were built to exclude.
The knowledge that once held these polarities in balance wasn't lost by accident. Colonisation erased it — the wisdom of indigenous peoples who never split the masculine from the feminine, the human from the land, the inner from the outer. The first world didn't outgrow that balance. It was trained to forget it. What we're missing isn't new — it's what was taken.
Unlearning the inherited version isn't losing your masculine or your feminine. It's getting the real ones back — the kind that don't cost the people around you.
Everyone carries both, whatever their gender. This is for men, women, couples, and everyone the old script never fit. It keeps a particular focus on men — in a Western patriarchal world, men were handed the enforcing end of the distortion, and the pattern loosens fastest when the people holding it set it down. But no one stands outside this.
Tom in front of a room — the two polarities, the nervous system, and the world that distorts both. For mixed rooms, and events that want the real conversation, not the tidy one.
A small group across months — men's circles, women's circles, or mixed. Peer to peer: what one person sees, the others recognise. Held, not taught at.
The Human Origin Nerve — pieces and practices in your own time. Or as a couple: the polarity that went quiet, and what's been performing in its place.
A leader who has met their own essence and shadow stops handing them to the people around them. This is the inner engine of the work I'm known for — leaders who can hold themselves, and so can hold their teams. When it's your organisation on the line:
